2007 | The General Assembly adopts resolution 62/228, in which it strengthens the Administration of Justice, including the informal system. The Office of the Ombudsman and Mediation Services becomes a single, integrated and decentralized Office for the Secretariat, UNHCR and the Funds and Programmes. |
2006 | The Office of the Joint Ombudsperson is created with services extended to UNICEF, thus ending the voluntary Ombudsman system in UNICEF. The Office now serves UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS and UNICEF. |

2002 | The Office of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Ombudsperson starts its operations, replacing the voluntary Ombudsman Panel. The Administrator announces the establishment of the office to all UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS staff by global email, to which are attached the terms of reference. At the same time, the GA establishes the UN Ombudsman and the Secretary-General issues a bulletin promulgating the appointment and terms of reference of the Ombudsman (ST/SGB/2002/12). |
