Mr. James Lee 

 

James Lee has worked as an ombudsman in the United Nations system for over twenty-five years, following a career in university teaching and administration in Africa, Europe and North America.

 

He joined the United Nations in 1985 as Chief Editor, UNDP, and shortly thereafter was appointed a member of the Ombudsman Panel, serving as its Coordinator for many years. On the establishment of the Office of the Ombudsperson in 2002, James became the first professional ombudsman to serve a number of UN funds and programmes, including UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM and UNV. Since his retirement from fully active service, James now works as a consultant with the Office of the Ombudsman for United Nations Funds and Programmes, drawing on the whole range of ombudsmen services.

 

James holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. Honours degree from Durham University, UK.
