Funmi Roberts (Nigeria)

Funmi Roberts is a mediator based in Lagos, Nigeria. She was introduced to mediation during a USAID-sponsored trip for women in the political process, to the United States of America in 1990. She subsequently trained and became an accredited mediator for the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR). She is also a member of CEDR’s Global Panel of Mediators and a serving member of its faculty. Funmi is the founding partner of Funmi Roberts & Co., Nigeria, and heads the Arbitration and ADR Unit of the Dispute Resolution Department of the firm.

A founding member of the board of directors of the Lagos Court of Arbitration and Oyo State Multidoor Courthouse, Funmi served on the Executive Council of CIARB, Nigeria Branch for several years and is currently a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. She has served as a mediator in several high stakes disputes and is listed on the Panel of Neutrals of the Lagos State MultiDoor Courthouse, Kigali International Arbitration Centre and Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration. She was recently re-appointed to the Dispute Resolution Panel of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission in Nigeria. She is the chairman of the National Committee on the reform of the governing law of arbitration in Nigeria, the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1988.

Further, Funmi is the co-visioner of the COVID-19 ADR Initiative (CADRI) launched in June 2020 to offer dispute resolution services for three categories of COVID-19 related disputes, in a cheaper, efficient and effective manner.

Funmi graduated top of her class both at the University of Ife, Nigeria and at the Nigerian Law School in 1982. She has also earned her Master’s of Laws Degree from University of Ife, during which she was awarded the University of Ife Alumni Fellowship.
