Ms. Hauwa Yakubu (Nigeria)

Ms. Hauwa Yakubu LL.B. B.L, MCIArb, is a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the Head of Division (Abuja) and Assistant Chief Registrar at the National Industrial Court (NICN) and the immediate past Deputy Director of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, the first court-connected mediation center in the Nigerian Judiciary.

Hauwa is a certified mediator with practical experience mediating cases at a private law firm, where she worked in litigation for over five years before joining the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. Hauwa has contributed to the resolution of workplace disputes, labour disputes, employment disputes, trade union disputes, and matters relating to Workmen Compensation Act, Trade Unions Act, Trade Disputes Act, and Factories Act. She is a mediation trainer since her accreditation as a mediator and was responsible for establishing and overseeing the effective operations and administration of the NICN Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre nationwide.

Hauwa was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003 after obtaining her LLB Hons degree in the year 2000. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb)(UK); Fellow with the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators Nigeria (ICMC); Accredited Mediator with the Center for Effective Dispute Resolution, London (CEDR); Member, Nigerian Bar Association; and Member, International Bar Association.

Hauwa is a native Hausa speaker and fluent in English.
