Veronica Luard

Ombudsman – 2006-2010

Prior to her appointment as Associate Ombudsperson in the Joint Office of the Ombudsperson, Veronica Luard served as Regional Human Resources Officer for UNICEF in the East and Southern Africa region, in Nairobi, Kenya.

She has worked in various UNICEF offices in Programme and Operations management. She began her professional career as Assistant Programme Officer in Maputo, Mozambique.

She then served as Programme Officer in various countries: Senegal, where she was responsible for the development and management of UNICEF assisted programmes in Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau; Burkina Faso, and Cote d’Ivoire.

Ms. Luard is a national of Guyana. She holds a Bachelors degree in (Liberal Arts) from Columbia University in New York, an MSc in International Relations from the University of the West Indies, and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University.

In October 1994, Ms. Luard joined the Staff Development and Training Section in New York headquarters, where she served until she took up the position of Senior Human Resources Officer in the Division of Human Resources.

Veronica Luard also holds professional certification from The International Ombudsman Association.
