2016 New terms of reference for the Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services are published – ST/SGB/2016/7
2015  Alayne Frankson-Wallace (2015-2017) and Giuseppe De Palo (August 2015 – February 2022) are appointed as Ombudsmen for the Funds and Programmes.
2012 Tenth anniversary of the Office of the Ombudsman.
2011 The Office of the Ombudsman for United Nations Funds and Programmes begins to offer services to UN-Women.
2010 Mame Diagne and Helmut Buss hold the position of Ombudsman for United Nations Funds and Programmes.
2007 The General Assembly adopts resolution 62/228, in which it strengthens the Administration of Justice, including the informal system. The Office of the Ombudsman and Mediation Services becomes a single, integrated and decentralized Office for the Secretariat, UNHCR and the Funds and Programmes.
2006 The Office of the Joint Ombudsperson is created with services extended to UNICEF, thus ending the voluntary Ombudsman system in UNICEF. The Office now serves UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS and UNICEF.
2006 The Redesign Panel on the United Nations system of administration of justice makes recommendations on processes and structures of the formal and informal justice system (A/61/205).
2006-2010 Veronica Luard is appointed to head the Office of the Joint Ombudsperson.
2002-2006 James Lee serves as the first UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Ombudsperson.
2002 The Office of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Ombudsperson starts its operations, replacing the voluntary Ombudsman Panel. The Administrator announces the establishment of the office to all UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS staff by global email, to which are attached the terms of reference. At the same time, the GA establishes the UN Ombudsman and the Secretary-General issues a bulletin promulgating the appointment and terms of reference of the Ombudsman (ST/SGB/2002/12).
